My standards for french toast center on 1) the quality of the bread, and 2) how well the custard perfuses into the bread.

If I want a properly brunchy brunch I g o into the city to eat at Fare Well , because somewhat hippie-friendly Silver Diner right by my house doesn’t have much in the way of rabbit food brunch items. Little bit of a schlep since it’s a 40 min ride on the Metro from the station by my house, but usually we make a day of it with other activities.

Although...I peeked at the Silver Diner brunch menu and they now have a Just Egg benedict! Imma hit that shit up ASAP!

And totally vegan! The “eggs” are tofu with turmeric for color, the “sausage” is seitan, and the whipped “cream” is coconut cream .

Fare Well is one of several vegan joints on H St NE in DC, but I don’t get there as much as I’d like. I live and work in the burbs.

But, my particular town (Rockville, MD) is the unofficial Chinatown of the DC area, because Chinatown in DC isn’t really Chinatown anymore.   I have all kinds of insanely good Chinese restaurants with plenty of veggie options. And now I had to go back through my camera roll to brag!
